Socalfreenet.org is a Special Interest Group (SIG) of the San Diego Computer Society, a 501(c)(3) organization. SoCalFreeNet.org is a non-profit community group dedicated to building, deploying and growing public wireless networks to increase widespread broadband adoption and create an empowered, connected society, where technology becomes a community resource. We are grassroots, community based volunteers who will help you build and use free wireless networks using Wi-Fi technology.

This is a project by the community for the community. Inspired by similar projects like Third Break, NYCWireless, PTP, SeattleWireless and AtlantaWireless (to name just a few), we decided to do the same for Southern California.
Current projects in San Diego include, Golden Hill (near downtown), Normal Heights, North Park, National City, Sherman Heights, Barrio Logan and Carmel Valley.
