How To Provide Free Wireless Internet Access

If you run or own or live in an affordable housing project and would like to get high-speed internet access to your residents, please contact us with the details about your location. A typical installation unfolds like this:

  • you contact us and we arrange to meet and review your property and local tech resources
  • we calculate equipment costs and estimate how many paid and volunteer hours are required
  • you find the funds to pay for the installation
  • we work together to get shareable broadband feeds installed at appropriate locations (e.g. one DSL feed per 20-50 residents)
  • we arrange an installation day and our volunteers work with your residents and maintenance staff to install the equipment
  • a week later, we have a second volunteer day to help residents configure their computers and get online
  • we provide ongoing remote monitoring of your network and its usage and provide regular reports

The timreframe from contact to installation can be as short as a few days, or as long as it takes to find funding.

Although we are based in San Diego USA, we actively seek partnerships with similar groups elsewhere around the world.

We will also do installations for mixed or commercial housing (the latter at commercial rates). Note that we are no longer focusing on 'free wireless everywhere' as in the past but instead are executing on our mission to bridge the digital divide.
