Posted October 9th, 2006 by mikemee
K26 is a Primo Location. A nice high roof on a hilltop. But it sure is a pain to mess with the AP when we need to. First we need a high ladder, and then we need someone willing to get on the sloping roof after climbing the ladder. This is when you need a rock hopper like Drew! Thanks man! Golden Hill Network Updates - 23rd and C Street back online
Posted October 2nd, 2006 by mikemeeWe had some more rooftime updating the solar powered C St and 23rd location that is quite popular. It was the last in a series of nodes that required a hardware update (new radio) to work around a bug that's prevalent in many laptops (the so-called 'sleep mode' bug) and causes the access point to hang. This required frequent reboots.
Anyhow, geek details aside, this location is back up and good as new, powered, as always just by sunshine. And it should now stay up much more consistently. Enjoy!

New networking equipment in the Golden Hill Pink Palace iChat AV
Posted April 11th, 2006 by AnonymousI just moved to C street between the 24th and 25th, and I got so glad when I figured out the neighboorhood has free internet access.
I have an Mac computer and I get my signal through the airport, but when I try to use the video-conferencing program that comes with the Mac OSX, the iChat AV, I am never able to conduct a video conferencing (nothing wrong with the text messenging tough).
I open all the ports necessary on my personal firewall, but I still can get it working. I think it might be something at the Nodes... maybe some kind of embemded firewall?!
Does anybody know anything about that?

Cheap Switches, and Rebuilding Infrastructure for Reliability
Posted November 5th, 2005 by mikemeeToday we hastily gathered tools and volunteers and headed up to La Cresta to make some repairs and rebuild some facilities slightly ahead of schedule. This is a quick report on what happened and what we did today. Thanks again to all those that turned up to help on such short notice!
We received a report yesterday (Friday) of problems at La Cresta - stands to reason, since I'd just written how everything was stable there. Some phone debugging suggested that DHCP wasn't working.
To cut a long debug story short
Current Golden Hill Network Status
Posted October 7th, 2005 by mikemeeCurrent network status for Golden Hill: All nodes are working except for Broadway at 27th (see comments below). Casa 23 is reported to be very slow - we're working on it. Everything else should be much faster as of last Sat (Oct 3) as we upgraded the capacity by 2.5.
